Shivwits Band Corporation

The Shivwits Band Corporation (SBC) is a federally chartered Section 17 corporation and holding company that owns all other economic development entities for the Shivwits Band of Paiutes. Each of the entities described below are wholly owned by the SBC and, ultimately, the Shivwits Band.

Shivwits Convenience Store

Operating since 2014, the Shivwits Convenience Store is organized under the Shivwits Band Limited Liability Code. The Shivwits Convenience Store has been performing very well under the management of new Store Manager, Tina Gonzales, and the SBC Board of Directors. Fuel sales have increased 912.71 percent since January this year, and the 2021 annual sales are already 2.92 times higher than any previous year with two months of the year remaining. The overall profitability of the store, wherein several Shivwits Band members are employed, is also higher than ever before. Store employees are working on inventory management, pricing adjustments to achieve targeted profit margins, and providing exceptional customer service.

Convenience Store Expansion

The SBC Board of Directors and Store Manager are working on a Convenience Store expansion project, which will include approximately 400 square feet of retail space as well as newly designed restrooms. The remodel will increase the product offering of the Convenience Store and accommodate the influx of customers resulting from the completion and operation of the new sports complex currently under construction. The planned expansion is likely to include an additional drive through, additional registers, and a soda shop operation.

Sports Complex

The Shivwits Band Council and Shivwits Band Corporation Board of Directors have cooperated with the Utah Youth Soccer Association (UYSA) to develop a four or five-field sports complex. UYSA has an agreement to use the sports complex during specific times. The Shivwits Band, Band Council, and SBC Board will be able to use the complex during all times not set apart for UYSA soccer events to generate further revenue from hosting additional sporting and other types of events.   Expected to be done in the summer of 2022, there will be a grand opening event when the complex is complete. UYSA will have events at the facility five days a week during the soccer seasons and projects that the facility will bring 100,000 people to the Reservation each year, resulting in a great increase of Convenience Store profitability.

The SBC Board of Directors is currently working on building a parking lot near the Fire Lake Reservoir, which will allow Shivwits Band members and members of neighboring communities to park closer to the Reservoir. The SBC Board of Directors plans to start a concession operation with a permanent structure or trailer that will provide jobs for Shivwits Band members. The plans for the parking lot were designed by licensed engineers and approved by the County. Additionally, a geotechnical survey was completed to provide the best information to the contractors developing the site, thereby ensuring the parking lot longevity.

RV Park

The SBC Board is also currently working with engineers to design plans for an RV park near Fire Lake Reservoir. The plans, which allow for future expansion, include approximately 40-50 RV spaces, a club house, and some amenities. In addition to providing jobs for Shivwits Band members, the RV park will provide a place for soccer tournament attendees to stay and will also bring customers to the Convenience Store.
